Loyola University Scholarships

Presidential, Damen, Loyola, Trustee, Dean, and Regent’s Scholarships: These tuition-restricted scholarships are awarded to academically qualified students based on information provided in the admission application process, without regard to financial need. Scholarship amounts range from $10,000 to $26,000 per year.

These academic scholarships are only applicable to full-time undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree. College graduates who are seeking a second-bachelor degree are ineligible for any merit-based scholarship from the university.

Catholic Heritage Award: This award (awarded for four years of consecutive, full-time enrollment) is made to new freshmen graduating from a Catholic high school within the Archdiocese of Chicago or the Diocese of Joliet. This award is restricted to tuition. Students graduating from a Jesuit high school in Chicago will be awarded the Jesuit Heritage Award instead.

LUROP: The Loyola Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (LUROP) is the umbrella under which all funded undergraduate research programs offered at Loyola University Chicago are centralized. The goal of LUROP is to enrich, enhance, diversify, and individualize the learning experiences of undergraduate students. Each program is unique, providing students from any school or department with the opportunity to conduct research in their area of interest. 

Mulcahy Scholars Program: This program offers students the opportunity to work closely with faculty on projects of educational significance that reflect the diversity of academic activity throughout the College of Arts and Sciences. The program accepts applications from students in CAS majoring in the hard sciences. Each recipient of a Mulcahy Scholarship receives a stipend of $1,000 and is eligible to receive up to $1,000 in project support. 

Departmental scholarships

Once you are a student at Loyola, you may qualify for scholarships offered by academic departments. These awards are typically offered to students beyond the freshman level, so after you are established in your major, you can begin to make inquiries with your academic department. The number and amount of awards vary by department, as do eligibility criteria. 

Athletic scholarships

These scholarships are offered to students demonstrating outstanding athletic ability who plan to participate in inter-collegiate athletics at Loyola.  Scholarship amounts will vary and are determined by the athletics department.

Martin J. Svaglic Humanities Scholarship

Two $2,500 per year scholarships will be awarded to a qualified new freshman or transfer students who have been admitted into one of the following areas in the humanities: Art History, Fine and Performing Arts majors, Classical Studies, Dance, English, and Creative Writing, Fine and Performing Arts majors, French, History, Italian, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Spanish, Theatre, Theology, and Visual Communications. Prospective candidates must have a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Latino Art Beat

Two $8,000 scholarships ($2,000 each year for four consecutive years) are awarded to three new students accepted to Loyola and also named winners in Chicago’s Latino Art Beat competition by Mr. Don Rossi Nuncio, president. These scholarships are restricted to tuition.

School of Education Half-Tuition Scholarship

Two half-tuition scholarships are offered to incoming freshmen entering the School of Education. Selected finalists are required to complete an interview. This scholarship may not be combined with another academic award and will replace any previously awarded scholarship. Students are expected to serve as leaders in the School of Education. This includes serving on school committees and attending school events.
