Exploring Kenya: A Journey from Nairobi to Mombasa

Unlike my previous travels with my friends to other east African countries like Rwanda and Tanzania, I visited Kenya (Nairobi and Mombasa) with my brother. We first landed in Nairobi then after a few days, we flew to Mombasa. Here is a little breakdown of activities and places we visited.

Arrival At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

Nairobi Adventures:

Arrival and Hub Karen Excitement

Giant Swing

Our journey into Kenya commenced with anticipation as my brother and I touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, having embarked on a 4-hour flight from Lagos. From afar during landing, the vibrant energy of Nairobi greeted us, and without wasting much time, we took a cab and zoomed off to our hotel located in the bustling heart of the city. We had a brief rest from the long journey before we started making preparations to begin with the tours and activities.

Leap of Faith

We started with a visit to “The Hub Karen”, a hub of thrilling activities. At the hub Karen, we decided to try some of the activities they had there like the Racing ziplines, giant swing, and leap of faith. Those were exciting moments and set the tone for our time in Nairobi.

Nairobi City Tour and Kenyatta International Convention Center

At the top of Kenyatta International Convention Center

Super excited to explore the city, we kicked off with some lunch at one of the mall’s eateries. Nothing like filling up before a big adventure, right? With our tummies satisified, we jumped into a full-on Nairobi city tour.

We drove around, checking out the city, and visited the Kenyatta International Convention Center. A noteworthy stop brought us to the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Center. Scaling its 32 stories granted us a panoramic view of Nairobi and it was a really nice experience seeing Nairobi from up there.

Getting up there was a bit of a workout though we used elevators to some certain floor, but let me tell you, the view was worth every step. It felt like being on top of the world, or at least on top of Nairobi. The city sprawled out beneath us, and it was like looking at a giant puzzle of streets and buildings.

Nairobi National Park Safari

The very next day, we geared up for a wild adventure at the famous Nairobi National Park. Think of it as a safari or a game drive – basically, we were on the lookout for some cool animals. And oh boy, it was like stepping into a real-life animal show!

Giraffes, lions, zebras, even ostriches and rhinos – they were all there, just doing their thing in this massive open space. The park felt like this giant, open home for these animals, where they could roam around freely. Imagine being in the front row of a super cool animal concert – that’s exactly what it felt like. Nature was putting on a show, and we had the very best seats in the house!

Carnivore Nairobi Feast

Carnivore Nairobi

So, after hanging out with the wild buddies at the national park, our stomachs were craving for their own adventure” That’s when we set out to Carnivore Nairobi for a meat buffet.

It was a buffet with all kinds of meats or should I say carnivorous meats, and I mean ALL kinds. There was ostrich, flavorful crocodile, and mouth-watering turkey. Every bite was a new adventure, It felt like a food celebration, and we were totally there for it!

Giraffe Center and Kazuri Beads

Our wildlife adventure didn’t stop – we hit up the Giraffe Center next. It was like a hangout session with these tall and graceful creatures. Picture us standing right in front of them, face-to-face, and feeding them. It was a real bonding moment with these chill giraffes.

Then, we decided to get a bit artsy and headed to Kazuri Beads. It’s this cool workshop where crafty women make beads from clay. The colors were poppin’, and the designs were like mini pieces of art. We got hooked and ended up taking some beads home – like little souvenirs that captured the vibe of our journey. It was all about creating memories, one bead at a time!

Nairobi National Museum and Snake Park

Nairobi National Museum

The next day, we decided to dig even deeper into Kenya’s cool mix of culture and nature. So, we landed at Nairobi National Museum – a place packed with all kinds of awesome stuff. It was like walking into a visual party of birds and animals.

There were thousands of bird species and a bunch of diverse animals, each one like a little superstar showing off Kenya’s wild side. It was a bit like being in a giant photo album, but instead of pictures, we had the real deal right in front of us.

Then, things got even more thrilling as we headed to Nairobi Snake Park. It was like entering a whole new world of hissing sounds and impressive reptiles. Alligators and crocodiles were doing their thing, and we were right there soaking it all in. The snake park was like a live show of both venomous and non-venomous snakes, and let me tell you, it was both fascinating and a bit on the wild side. Face-to-face with these slithering buddies like the pythons, black mamba’s and many more, our adventure hit a whole new level!

Mombasa Experience:

Fort Jesus

So, after all the Nairobi fun, we hopped on a plane and zipped over to Mombasa – a whole new chapter of our adventure. Mombasa was like a fresh breeze with a side of seaside vibes.

City Tour and Fort Jesus Museum

First things first, we did a quick city tour. It was like a fast date with Mombasa’s coolest spots. We breezed through the famous Fort Jesus Museum – a place packed with stories from way back. It was like stepping into a time machine, surrounded by echoes of the past.

Ferry Ride and Mombasa Impressions

Mombasa City

Mombasa had us hooked not just with the ancient stories but also with the easy-breezy vibes of coastal living. We hopped on a ferry, and let me tell you, it was like getting a front-row seat to the heartbeat of the city. We made a journey from the mainland to the Island and back.

So, when we look back at our Kenyan adventure, Nairobi and Mombasa stand out like these super lively chapters. Each place added its own splash of color to our memory canvas.

Nairobi was all about the busy city vibe and hanging out with cool animals. It was like a wild concert mixed with a bit of city hustle. Then, Mombasa brought in these ancient vibes with its forts and laid-back coastal charm.

Kenya, in the end, turned out to be this amazing country of discovery and joy. Everywhere we turned, there was something new to explore and enjoy. The bustling streets, the wild animals and the echoes of history. To sum it all, Kenya gave us one of the very best experiences and memories that won’t be leaving in a hurry.
